Leep Utilities becomes first water utility to migrate onto Kraken

  • Leep partners with Kraken to revolutionise service for water customers
  • Kraken to boost Leep’s smart meter rollout, enhance water efficiency and reduce leaks
  • All 37,000 Leep customers now migrated over to Kraken systems
  • Kraken is the force behind Octopus Energy becoming UK’s largest energy supplier, and has delivered results around the world including a net increase of +24 in customer net promoter score

London, 1st May 2024 – Homes and commercial premises across the UK will get a better water supply service after a deal between Leep Utilities and Octopus Energy’s Kraken Technologies.

Leep is the first water company in the UK to have fully migrated to Kraken systems following its push to enhance water efficiency and the digitisation of its operations.

All of Leep’s 37,000 customers have moved to the Kraken platform without any disruption to supply or customer service.

Kraken, created by the Octopus Energy Group, is the fastest growing utility software in the UK. The AI-enabled tech platform connects all the links of the water value chain – from customer usage to industry and environmental monitoring data. It reduces leaks, improves water efficiency and addresses challenges posed by climate change.

The partnership enables Leep to speed up its smart meter rollout and streamline operational processes and payment methods, greatly improving overall customer service.

Through Kraken's customer portal, Leep customers now have access to self-service tools that enable them to better manage their water consumption. This fosters greater transparency and environmental awareness.

Leep’s implementation of Kraken is a milestone in the digitisation of the water industry. It becomes a key player in driving technological innovation within the sector, joining Portsmouth Water and Severn Trent who adopted the platform in 2023.

Deepak Ravindran, CEO of Kraken Utilities, said: “Kraken’s unrivalled technology allows utility companies like Leep to give more autonomy to their people through streamlined processes. We’re delighted to bring Kraken to Leep – helping them to create a more customer-centric water provider - faster and in a more straightforward, sustainable and efficient way.”

Louise Manfredi, CEO of Leep said: “Our growth strategy is very ambitious and the pressures on UK water supply continue to mount - in terms of the environment, the rising population, leakage and the continuing cost of living crisis – so partnering with Kraken is a very logical, sensible and exciting next step to support us in achieving our goals whilst helping to ease these very serious issues.

“Kraken will enable us to provide our customers with the best levels of customer service – including greater efficiency and transparency – as well as the many environmental benefits it brings.”

Mandy Meehan, Director of Revenue Assurance, Change and Data - who has been responsible for the delivery of the Kraken programme at Leep - said: “I am pleased to announce that Leep has become a member of the Kraken family, with a lot of hard work from both Leep and the Kraken teams, we are now in the final stage of our migration. This final phase will allow us to decommission our legacy system and move forward with a new and more customer centric platform that will bring benefits to the business and our customers.“
